In this retelling of La Cage aux Folles, Val, the son of gay drag club owner Armand Goldman (Robin Williams), decides to introduce his fiance and her parents, Republican Senator Kevin Keely (Gene Hackman) and housewife Louise (Dianne Wiest), by bringing them home for dinner. But instead of telling the truth, the Goldmans decide to try and hide their unconventional family, including Armand's flamboyant significant other Albert (Nathan Lane), from the Keelys by playing it straight.
