Sharmilla Ganesan is a features journalist, culture writer and author from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As chief reporter with the Star Media Group there, she writes for The Star newspaper and website. With almost a decade of feature-writing experience, she has worked on a wide variety of stories, and her current area of focus is books, arts and film. She coordinates the literary section for The Star, which involves managing both its print and online presence. Her literary column, "Booked Out," aims to create accessible conversations around reading and literature.
Sharmilla also writes fiction, and her short stories have been published in several anthologies and literary journals. She is a past recipient of the Malaysian Australia Colombo Plan Commemoration Scholarship and has a master’s degree in communication focusing on film from RMIT University (Melbourne, Australia).
