Cindy Conaway teaches Media Studies and Communication at SUNY-Empire State College. Courses include Television and Culture, Media and Visual Literacy, and Women, Girls, and the Media. Her scholarly work is most concerned with gender and television, but she also writes about film, magazines, books, music, and the Internet. She has had articles published in The Mid-Atlantic Almanack, Flow, All About Mentoring and Antenna.com. Book chapters have appeared in Geek Chic: Smart Women in Popular Culture, edited by Sherrie Inness (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008) and How Television Shapes Our Worldview: Media Representations of Social Trends, edited by Deborah A. Macey and Kathleen M. Ryan (Lexington Books, 2014). She is working on a book about girls on teen television. She has presented on her work in 5 countries on 3 continents and once appeared on Jeopardy!
